I was browsing sportsmansguide.com and I noticed they have a brand of cheaper saltwater trolling motors called Watersnake. they have a 17lb thrust saltwater protected model for 90 bucks. I have a 14ft Tracker Grizzly and use it in saltwater on occasion and would like an electric motor just for fine tuning a drift or moving between oyster beds during oyster harvest season. My boat hull alone weighs 360 lbs. Would 17lb thrust be too lite for it? I remember long ago my Pops had a 17lb Minn Kota on a 16ft fibreglass rig with 55hp Chrysler. I dont remember how it handled the boat.

I would definately go with someting bigger. I used to run around with a 14' flat bottom jon with a 28 lb trolling motor on some lakes and if it was windy or had another person in the boat it wouldn't move too well. If I was you I would go with at least a 30lb thrust motor
