Upgraded Stator.. How to test

I have some type of an upgraded Stator on my 1987 merc 90 3 cylinder. There is a rectangular module the stator wires go into. I googled it and came up with an upgrade/adapter kit though I am unable to find how to test. I am also not sure how many amps the stator has.

It is part 834949A3 and has 2 yellow wires, one greeen/white and one white/green wire. These wire go into the stator (or come from?). One more wire comes out the other side and is blue and connects into what I think is the switch box.

I looked under the flywheel and see a RED stator but am not sure this is 16AMP or 9 AMP. How can I tell.. My VM only has 10AMP unfused so I am afraid to test this part. I have OHM'ed the two yellow wires and came up with close resistance (.6-1.1) . I also ohmed the second test between either yellow stator and did not get continuity. But if I have 16 amp vs 9 amp the resistance might be off. Also since I have this upgrade I do not know what the numbers should be.

Questions...:

How can I test this correctly?
How can I tell how many amps this stator is?
What exactly is this 834949A3 module?

Symptoms of the issue I am tackling are missing/hesitation at high RMP. I replaced the rectifier today. No help. Also do not have a finned regulator on this engine..

Thanks to anyone who may offer some advice.
