I have a '89 Sylvan with a rotton transom. My motor is a '89 120 Evinrude v-4. How do I pull the engine off with an engine hoist? Should I strap the housing? is there a proper way to pull the engine up? I don't see any lifting rings... Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Motor lifting question

Welcome to iboats

Most V-4's have a lifting ring at the rear of the flywheel on the cylinder side of the power head.

The motor weighs about 300 + pounds ;)

Re: Motor lifting question

Thanks for the quick reply. I do not see any lift ring. I went and looked again. Either I am blind or I do not have one on the motor. Of course I bought the motor used so I don't know if the lift ring was removed. No attachment points back there look like they have had anything removed.

I do see 3 holes near the center of the flywheel that look to be about 5/16" fine thread. Could this be where I would bolt a lift ring to or are these for pulling the flywheel?

Again, I do appreciate the help.

Re: Motor lifting question

Install a harmonic balancer puller using those three flywheel holes and attach to the puller. Very easy.
