I have an '86 Ebco Monte Carlo with a 2.3 L OMC Cobra inboard/outboard. The boat overall runs great, but it has been getting progressively worse about hesitating and even dying when I near 2500 rpm's. If you go ahead and put it to full throttle, it accelerates just fine.
Some background information.
This boat and drivetrain is in extremely great shape and has been in the family since new. This boat was in storage for over ten years and when we finally got it back out, we changed the outdrive and engine oils along with changing out the old fuel. In the last three years that we have been using the boat (very seldom, 1-2 times/year) it has alway had a slight hesitation at around 2500 rpm. When we had it out today it was getting to the point of dying several times when trying to ease into the throttle at the magic 2500 rpm. If you go from idle to full throttle quickly, there is only a slight hesitation before accelerating and the boat runs great at every rpm range below 2000 and above 3000. Something I just noticed this year when we put in on the water last week is that it appears that exhaust is coming from the pivot area of the outdrive and very little from the impeller. I don't recall this being the case in previous years boating trips, but I'm not sure, I may just not have noticed.
I'm not real familiar with boats(definately don't know the lingo), but do understand engines and other mechanical things.
Does anyone have any ideas my issue?
