Oily smell from AC

Hey folks. I have a Mermaid AC mounted in the bow of our cruiser. It works great, but when we kick it on it makes the cabin smell like motor oil. The boat never smells like this with the AC off, even when closed up for a long time so I'm pretty sure it's just coming from the AC.

Does anyone else have this problem? What is that smell??

Thanks!

My boat has a 16K Mermaid and I've never smelled oil from it.
Your compressor contains oil, so maybe it's leaking a little.
Turn it off, put your hand in there and feel around.

The condensate drain may be plugged up causing bacteria to grow in the evaporator section, this can cause all sorts of bad musty smells.

bad idea.... unless you know what you are doing stay out of it.... there is a capacitor in there that can give you a dangerous shock even after the unit is unplugged.....
