I am attempting to rebuild the carbs on my 1973 85hp merc and the inlet needle seat/orifice on the float bowl assembly in the rebuild kit is different from the factory part. I have attached pictures. The factory part had a rubber gasket in it and the hole in the needle seat is actually a little bigger than the one in the kit. I have attached pics of the new part, old part, and float bowl assembly. I think it will be ok and am planning on putting it back together this evening but I would like to make sure for my peace of mind because I really dont want to have to do this twice. thanks in advance

Re: rebuilding carbs on 850 mercury (inlet needle question)

The old one has a solid needle and seals against rubber, the new one has a rubber tipped needle and seals in the solid seat. Make sure you install the new brass seal washer or it will seep around threads and cause a flooding problem when setting. Also check the threads as there are coarse and fine thread seats....
