Swapping an old MR to a Alpha 1 outdrive unt

Can I swap different outdrive units. I have a pre alpha unit that is no good to me now and I have a Alpha one unit ready to slap on. Now I noticed that there are two bolt holes missing on the transom and on the transom plate. Can I go ahead and drill out those holes.

Thanks Bondo. Also there is a additional water hose next to the main water line. Where does that connect to. Also will i need to change the sterndrive shaft and or the coupler?
