I bought this motor and it looks like there is a 5" extension in the lower unit making it a long shaft? I want to know if I can remove this without replacing the shaft? If these extension was sold as a bolt on with coupler of some sort? Anyone who has ran into one before and would like to share some light I would really appreciate it. It's going on a 1958 LoneStar Skylark and I don't need the extra lenth.
Thank You
Chris

You have to change drivshaft and shiftrod, the watertube have an extentiontube that you pull off.

I just pulled the lower end off an identical engine and it does have a long one piece shaft . Nice looking boat. I have an ARISTOCRAFT boat that looks similar, what brand is yours?

Would another option be to put an adapter on the transom to raise the motor? OR! Would the motor etc be too out of balance? I have the same extension on a 1970, 35 HP Chrysler on a 1969 Raycraft and it needs it and works well.

Are there other older Raycraft owners out there???

i'm doing just the opposite, short shaft converted to a long. i'd be willing to trade ya parts. the parts motor i picked up has what i need but it would be nice to have both of my motors all the same just in case i have any other problems.
