i have a 1971 evinrude ski twin 40hp and have no spark on either cylinder. i pulled the flywheel off and the coils are new and points don't look too bad. clean and gap looks ok. is there anything else i can test or check. again no spark on either cylinder. i could see no spark on 1 cyl, poss. points or condensor, but i have zero spark all around, any help would be great, thanks.
model number is 40153G.

Re: 1971 evinrude 40 hp no spark

There are 2 black wires coning out from underneath the armature plate (what the coils are mounted on...). Those are the kill wires. Disconnect them at their knife connectors and try it again. Each of those wires runs to one set of points. If they are grounded to each other or the block, it won't fire.

The flywheel gets torqued back down to 105 ft-lbs on those...

Also, make sure that the points are gapped to 0.020" and are perfectly clean.
