hello.
i picked up a 1970 bayliner for cheap and the motor is bad. one plug was stripped but that one is easy to fix. the one i need to know is the motor worth rebuilding? i was just going to pull it and clean the whole thing and check bearings crank etc. everything is there but would it be easier to swap it with a different motor?

Welcome to iboats!

To get a quick-and-dirty assessment of the overall condition of the engine, do vacuum (assuming you can get it running), compression, and leak-down tests. If you have to do major repairs, it might be more cost-effective to find a replacement. I don't think there are going to be a lot of different engines that can be easily mated to your outdrive and stringers, so a direct replacement would be your best bet.

What is the overall condition of the boat? We also really like pictures!
