I fixed a guy's motor yesterday and he saw my Old Faithful motor on the stand and said he had a buddy the was looking for a motor. The guy called me tonight and asked me what I wanted for the motor. Ended up getting 4000.00 plus his motor that he was disgusted with after replacing the powerhead with a rebuilt one.

I just finished splitting the case and what a mess. The cylinders are glazed badly so it was never honed right. There was aircraft sealant between the cases instead of 518 and it was leaking like a sieve. The engine is drenched in oil because the bleader tubes are too small and were pinched. The electrical looks like a two year old did it and on and on.

To top it all off the serial number on the transom bracket say's the guys original powerhead was a 96 2.5L and this block is a 90 2.0 and to make matters worse it's got 135 pumper carbs on it.

I'm not going to bash the company on here but if you're thinking of buying a refurbished powerhead stick with well known vendors such as iBoats or ones recommended by folks on here.

My saving grace is that it wasn't touched by the jerks and the cylinders are actually in pretty good shape. They're glazed bad enough that they will need boreing or they'll be really loose but it is a decent motor to start from even though it was a rip off. I'll probably just part it out.

why not post the vendor so others will know to stay away. Or at least double check everything.

Sounds more like he bought a used instead of rebuilt p-head, how about some pic's? Theres a big difference in refurbished p-heads and rebuilt p-head, my powerheads are reman.. everything new but the block, crank, heads and rods and these are cleaned, peened, milled, shaved, blasted, inspected and polished as 60% of my work is sub-contractor work for area dealers and the rest is at either the dry stack or home shop.

I'm not posting the vendor because I did not buy the powerhead and only have this person word to go on. I do not want to open myself up for a lawsuit. If you are seriously looking to buy a refurbished/rebuilt powerhead then contact me and I'll tell you if the vendor your looking to is the same one that did this work.

I guess my definition of rebuilt power head is different than others. To me a rebuilt power head is the block and heads. The installer would be responsible for reassembly of the carbs, ignition, oil bleed lines, and all the wiring.
It sounds like the installer/previous owner had his hand in this also.
