Trim/Tilt not going down

I have a 1979 Johnson 235. The tilt up works fine but the unit will not tilt down. From any tilt up position, when the tilt down is activated, the trim/tilt motor operates and the motor tilts about a 1/4" then stops moving even with the tilt/trim motor operating. I can tilt down with the manual release value and the motor lowers manually to the trim in position (this is normal when releasing with the manual release value). From here I can only tilt up (out). I have check fluid level, cycled the system manually to remove air, & ensured the manual release value is tight.

Any ideas?

There is a overload curcuit in the motor and sounds like its going bad. Take the motor to a electrical shop and have the tech to by-pass the overload curcuit. Then use a 20 amp fuse between the motor and the battery.
