older 115hp evinrude no spark

I was trying to help a friend/coworker get his boat running. He had (guessing) a late 70's 115 that the lower unit went out on, he bought (guessing) a earlier 115 evinrude. The motor we installed has only one coil, the 2 wires going under flywheel were bare and touching each other as well as the housing. Replaced the bad wiring, have power going to the power pack but nothing seems to be getting to coil. I have searched the post's and didn't find a whole lot for any thing this old.

Would you have the model number?? It really helps for trouble shooting.

There should be a plate on the mounting bracket with the model number and serial number.
