I have a 1978 pontoon with a mercury outboard. the tag is missing with the model no. and serial no. i have found # 121782 on a freeze plug and also found # 8308548 on the engine.Any help with the year/hp would be great .

OK, See if you can find a listing with the 8308548 as the serial number on the maxrules.com web site. Look under the Merc 80 and 85 HP models. Does the motor have 4 coils or a distributor and one coil?
