I have a 35 HP Evinrude that has the appearance of the paint on the prop being removed by cavitation or something like that.

It has a small say 1/4" long crack in one of the blades.

Would I be able to keep this as a spare?

All props develope a certain amount of cavitation "wear". You could use it as a spare.
If your planing on getting a prop; now is the time to make a change if you want.
Its a bit involved but we need a description of the boat, your typical activities/load
your present prop size and max rpm and speed with a light load.

I don't believe I will be able to get you the RPM as I don't have a tachometer, however, I will take the boat out and get a GPS speed.

The boat is between 450 and 500 lbs. I unfortunately do not have the facilities to weigh it, and this is the best I can find with a google search.

The gas can is a metal pressurized unit, 6 gallon capacity.

3 life jackets, two danforth anchors weighing 10 and 12 pounds respectively, each with 100 ft of 3/8" poly rope.

One six pack size cooler full, tackle box, two fishing rods, one five gallon bucket, a blanket, two coats, two quarts of oil, spare prop, and tools.

Two people, one being 140 lbs the other varies, either it is my wife who weighs 100, or someone else probably closer to 200.

Anyway, I'm really just listing this so I remember to weigh everything.

The boat is a 14 ft fiberglass made by Fabuglas. Year is supposed to be 72'

The hull is a V hull with the hydrofoils. Closed Bow.

Typical activities, fishing. That's pretty much what I do with it.

A very good list.Unfortunately without a tach there is no way to know if your speed makes sense or why if it doesn't.
A Tinytach is $47 and easy to install.will fit any 2 stroke 2 cylinder.
They have a web site read carefully.
What is the year of your motor and the size of the prop, numbers on the barrel or under the prop nut.

Ah, now you are going to make me do research.

I will come back with that information, and I think I may just have to buy a tiny tach.

The outboard is a 58' Evinrude 35 HP.

Be back with the prop info.

Using the model number you may find the motor year at the NADA used boat and motor
value site. Don't have the address.Sorry

Re: 35 HP Evinrude Prop.

I found the year, it's a 58'

However, my prop has no markings indicating diameter or pitch.

Is there any way I can measure the prop to find these things out?

Re: 35 HP Evinrude Prop.

The motor came with a 10 3/8 X 13 1/4 prop, diameter X pitch.
Motor hp is rated at 4,500 usually can run to 5,000.
Prop selection will be limited. Motor is capable of about 33 mph on a light reasonably fast boat.

In that case, I'm good to go so long as I can reach RPM. I was only really wanted to go 25 MPH anyway.

Well, hopefully I can get the tach in and get the boat on the water and tested soon.

We'll see where we are from there.

Yes, your rpm and speed will tell the story. If a prop change seems required
a prop shop can measure your old prop.So we know which way to go.
