I have a 1992 Mercruiser 4.3 alpha one that I rebuilt the motor on this year. I got the boat this year with a cracked block so I had a project. After rebuild boat ran good then one weekend out I filled up with fuel and went to lake. Boat was bogging under a load trying to plane out.
It had all symptoms of fuel so i researched everything i could and replaced siphon valve, cleaned fuel pickup, replaced water seperator, replaced all lines all way to carb with 3/8 line, replaced electric fuel pump under warranty. It still ran rough. I did not replace fuel or run off of portable tank yet.
I got to looking at ignition system to see if anything was wrong and found coil had crack at top and had leaked oil out.
I replaced coil and wires and it ran like a dream. Lesson here is always check everything. It did not act like an electrical problem but was.
