Flywheel Jam

Good evening,

I went to fire up my old Johnson 1960 40hp motor today and my flywheel seems to have jammed with my starter...the starter wont release down and i cannot get my flywheel to budge...

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Could unbolt some of the starter mount bolts, and see if the gear drops down.

could it just be a problem of poor lubrication that caused this?

Starters don't need much lubrication. Just a drop or two of 3in1 oil on the shaft is all it takes.

then what could have cause this malfunction...timing possibly?
