Penta 3.0 GLP-E overheating solved??

the dealer replaced the trim motor over the winter. upon launching the boat it overheats when on plane. I took it back and they could not find a problem ( they had the boat for 5 weeks). I put it back in the water and it still overheats. Is it a fairly safe assumption that they compromised the seal on the water inlet line form the out drive to the engine or punched a hole in it so when the boat is on plane it sucks some air into the system - temperature slowly rises until I slow down and get the boat down in the water.

This is a 18 month old boat with 25 hours on it. still on warranty.

I really do not want to go back to these clowns but I think they owe me...
I do not want to pay for this repair.

does my diagnosis make sense?

I think you are working way to hard to blame it on the shop that changed the trim pump motor. My guess is you need an impeller. You may only have had th boat for 18 months and only 25 hours, but the impeller has been in there for 3 or 4 years. Plenty of time to have a permanent set. Put in a new one and I bet your problem goes away.

That was my first thought. I took the housing apart and everything looks brand new and it only overheats when on plane. If I trim it with the nose way up it does not overheat and in that configuration the motor has a pretty good load.
once I allow to to come up on plane It overheats very slow once the alarm goes off If I put it in neutral get it settled back into the water and run the engine at any RPM the engine goes right back to 175 degrees.

While I am frustrated with the service guy on this. I do not want to place blame incorrectly. I just wat the problem solved so I can use the boat.

I do a lot of work on auto engines but have little experience with and IO boat setup. Is it possible that the trim motor job damaged the water intake system?

Do you know what a new impeller looks like? When you took the impeller out, did all of the vanes straighten out.

Yes the vanes were straight there was no sign of distortion, cracking or wear.
It has low time and is stored in a heated warehouse for the winter.

I am going to take it back next week. I will post what the outcome was.
