Sealing Bellows Volvo 270

I am installing new bellows on my '74 Volvo 270 outdrive. I cleaned up the exhaust transom connection (which showed some corrosion) and primed it ready to go. I noticed that there is a groove in the metal and a corresponding ridge on the bellows.

Should I apply a sealant when installing the bellows?

Thanks again,

Jim

Yes on the u-joint bellows, not needed on the exhaust bellows

Re: Sealing Bellows Volvo 270

On my 290 I don't use adhesive for neither the drive or exhaust bellows. Really it is the clamping pressure that seals it. Never had any troubles. But regardless, you definitely don't need sealer for the exhaust since it is wet anyways.

Have a great day

Rob.

What kind of sealant would you recommend? Silicone, Urethane, Form-a-gasket?

Nothing. Volvo doesn't recommend using any kind of sealer on the bellows.

As stated above, it's not recommended to use sealer on the bellows.

A little marine grease can be used and will help to seal, but make sure the bellows don't slip.
