Hello all. Does anyone know the height for the shift rod linkage for the 2000 Johnson 70 outboard? Model # J70PLSIS, manufactured in 10/2000.

I changed the water pump assembly, and I am certain that I spun the linkage when it was disconnected, which I later learned was a no-no. Now, the gears are not shifting as they should (neutral-prop spins; control forward-only moves slightly forward).

I want to take it all apart and be sure that the linkage is the correct height. It seems like it needs to get longer.

Thanks!

Well, I got it figured out through trial and error. I am not certain to the exact height that I got it adjusted to, but I had to take it apart and hook everything up, and check to see if the forward, neutral, and reverse were all functioning correctly. I also had to check to make sure that the throttle cables were moving freely. Then, take it apart, spin the rod a bit to make it longer, and then put it back together. It wasn't exactly fun, but I can now take off and put on my lower unit in about 10 minutes total!

The next time I take it apart, I will measure the height and post if anyone wants the measurement.
