I have a 2000 four winns i just bought with a 115 johnson outboard i am new to operating an outboard when i am pulling a skier it seems if i give it to much throttle it seems to slip like a transmission slipping in a vehicle, unless i am not tilting right, also it has a fairly new prop on it any pointers would be great

Re: 115 johnson

Do you hear a thud and does the boat Jerk? If so then your gearbox, the lower unit, may be slipping. The skier may be putting too heavy of a load on a gearbox that may be already wore. Having said that, a ten year old gearbox should not slip, under normal conditions, pulling a skier.

Even though the prop may be relatively new, you should still test it to see if it has spun.

Click the thumbnail, mark the propeller as shown, then take a quick run to see if it slips.
