12V PTO on the solenoid/regulator box?

I'm a little confused as to the purpose/capabilities of the 12V hook up on the solenoid/regulator box of the old Johnnyrudes. I bet there's somebody here who can clear it up for me.
I know it's to power 12v accessories. But, is there any advantage to hooking up there for 12v power versus taking power directly from the battery to a distribution buss and splitting out to accessories from there?

What is the model # of the engine you are working on, with out looking at the electrical system, I don't quite understand your question.
