This may be a stupid question, but here goes. I have a 78 merc 20 hp, last night I was looking under the fly wheel and noticed that there is a wire with the insulation peeled back from deteriation the braided wires are corroding and on one end it looks like the wire is broken, some heat shrink at the end but goes no where. The motor starts,and runs, but at wot it seems to lack power. I have a 14' 48" jon boat, seems it should push a little more. Is it possible to test the stator?
