I have been battling a electrical gremlin which I believe is the culprit to my boats performance as it lunges speratically. Tonight I was troubleshooting some issues that I thought might lead to this issue.plugs, wires distributor and power to choke lead to which I found there was none (purple wire) any help to track this down would be great and yes the ket swithc was on and nada! I also noticed when cleaning the dizzy cap cantacts that the rotor shaft was rusted cleaned with emory and it did start allot easier @ that point I also noticed that the pick up coil I believe? that connects to the ignition module was loose and floating kinda spring loaded is this correct? I know there are a few ? within this post but would like to iron this issue before summer passes me by here in NE Ohio boating season is to short to miss with mechanical and or electrical issues. Thanx in advance for any help to my dilema.

No sense using emery cloth on distributor contacts. Find the $45 for a cap & rotor. If you need to check when there should be power to the choke look it up in the Mercruiser manual in the top of the forum. It's so hot out that your choke doesn't really even need to work right now!
I cold started my boat yesterday when it was 93 degrees out in neutral at idle, it gave one little stumble and settled to a low idle. Didn't pump the gas, I just wanted to see if it would go and it did.
Also, if you have multiple electrical problems you may benefit by cleaning up the terminals on your master (Cannon) plug. That's a place where emery cloth can help, just use a fine grit like 200 or 400, then blow out any dust when you are done. You can't get emery in the female plug holes but you can wrap it around the male contacts if they look corroded. It's a tedious job, takes a while, but if it fixes your problem, good! You don't want to remove material from the plug contacts, in fact they don't even need to get shiny, just knock down any corrosion. When you are done don't over tighten the clamp, just use enough tension to hold everything in place without crushing the plug inside.
You sound as if you may be describing ignition points if you see a spring loaded device with a small tube shaped piece attached. The tube is a condenser. If points they open and close when a piece attached to them rides in and out against the lobes on the distributor shaft as it spins.
If it has electronic ignition it might say Thunderbolt IV or V on it. That uses a pickup sensor that can tell when the metal of a tone wheel goes by it. Look at the pickup and make sure there are no breaks in the electric connection that goes from the actual sensor to the piece which connects to the engine wiring. If that piece is springy and moving it's probably bad. You won't believe the amount of detail in the manual. Take a look.

I have the manual but was unable to open it @ the time of the original post and I never spend untill I troubleshoot 1st regaurdless the lead to the choke has no power which to me would indiocate an issue down the line somewhere and I know I don't need it in these temps but according to the schematic this lead traces back to numerous assesories. and would like to track this issue down a,s,a,p EST ignition

Re: No power to 95 3.0LX mercarb choke?

Well just pulled the female end of the wiring harness from the engine and totally unrapped all the tape from it (why don't they use something more durable) to check for frey's and or loose connections I checked every wire from connection point to female master plug and continuity was good on every wire even all the purple the splice they used is kinda shakey but it tested good! plan on re-testing again tommorow and making a better connection with solder and using shrink wrap on all wires if possible. I also noticed when removing the wires from the alternator that the purple and red/purple leads were in need of sealing didn't get a chance to check continuity from end to end yet but maybe that will cure my issue with not getting 12v to the choke? I also plan on checking all components coil, pick up coil and alternator tommorrow as well.So with any luck and believe me I'm due everything will shake out and my rig will be tip top for some water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! andy comments and or suggestions would be great thanx! RICK.
