I spun the hub in my prop this weekend, probably because I nicked a rock while at idle. (Funny I didn't open the throttle and realize it for a long time. Ramp was not far, no big deal). Anyway, is there any repair for this? Can a new one be installed? If I buy New Old Stock, how do I know how old it is? I have no idea how old mine is, 20 years I would guess. The motor is 1959 Johnson 35 HP (with a custom plastic carb float BTW !). Does anyone still make these props new ? Michigan 012024 is a match. Some shown on web, eBay etc. 270568983439 and 370281324100 don't look the same. Which is better, thin blade (White) or clover paddle (black). What's the difference? Which is newer? Mine looks more like the black one.
Can I take mine to have it re-hubbed? Can I get a hub? What else can I do?

Thanks,
Kirby.

If the prop is in good shape, see if a prop shop will rehub it. If you need a new prop, someone should make one for that motor. Those motors were very popular, and a lot were made.

Try Michigan Wheel as well as OMC.

I got it apart easy enough. Anyone know where I can buy one of these vintage hubs? Anyone ever done anything else to repair these?
Thanks,

I think it is a hydraulic Press repair, perhaps using liquid rubber. I therefore do not think it is a home repair. See if a prop shop will do it for you...

Re: Re-Hub Prop '59 Pin Drive 12.5" x 12P

H & H in the Boston area (Salem) says about $100 for a new hub installed. I can buy a "new" prop for that. Many shops including BRP are showing these old pin drives as obsolete and NLA. I suppose at some point we will have to come up with some alternative. I'm the one who soldered a plastic sierra float in my carbuerator, so I'm sure I can build some kind of hub. ( http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=338689 )
BTW: it's pressed together with some kind of "wedge" tool, I assume like a piston ring compressor. He says they break a prop once in a while, and he does not think I can do it without the "wedge" tool.
I am looking at "liquid rubber" ideas. Good thing I don't NEED it. Any comments on the two blade shapes I reference above?

Thanks.
