lowewr end problem

i bought a 1966 mercury 1100ss last year and used it two our three times and it ran fine. i took it out for the first time this year and the propeller would not ingage foward or reverse no clue what is wrong with it can any one help thanks dc:(

Is the gear cable actually moving the gear selection lever on the engine? Take off the cowling and see if the selection lever is actuating the shift shaft that runs down to the lower unit.

Did you leave it exposed to the elements last winter and did it freeze?
