I have a 1995 150 mercury black max xri . The motor runs great but we made a few small trips up the lake and back. We are just riding, not pulling tubes. The problem is it used 3/4 a tank of gas and we really did not go very far. What can we do?

16-18 gallons per hour at WOT is about what you should be consuming.
An hour run up the lake and back at WOT with a 20 gal tank would leave you pretty close to empty. It should cruise (3500 rpm) and get in the 9-10 gal per hour range.
