Broken hitch lock - best way to remove

I went to pick up my boat from storage on Saturday. When I tried to put the barrel key in the hitch lock I couldn't get it to engage or turn. On closer inspection it looks like someone has tried to use another key to get it off and a piece has snapped off in the locking mechanism.

The lock is a Milenco box type hitch lock. Any suggestions as to how to get it off?

I am considering drilling the lock out but wondered if anyone else had had a similar problem?

Have you tried using some dental picks to remove the busted key?


Failing that
If it were mine I'd just blow the lock out with my plasma cutter.

With standard tools I'd try
1) drill the lock out
2) use a cutoff wheel to cut the box open.
