Hi Guys,

I've used my motor about 10 times this season and its worked excellent until yesterday. I was running wide open then all of a sudden the motor went into neutral. Now I can hear the transmission going into gear but the propeller still spins freely. Could it be a keyway or shift dog broken? Any Ideas would help before I rip a part the lower unit!

Thks Chris

I would check the shear pin first, maybe it sheared.

It's under the black prop nut behind the prop. Remove the cotter pin and prop nut and it will expose the shear pin. It goes through the prop hub and prop shaft.

I took the prop off and started the motor up and the shaft doesnt even turn. Is there not a key internal or another key?

The shear pin just hold the propeller onto the shaft right?

If it's in neutral the prop shaft woun't turn. With the engine NOT running, put it in gear and see if you can turn the propshaft with your hand, if it rotates freely in gear, you have problems in the lower unit.
The shear pin connects the prop to the propshaft. If it is missing or broken the propshaft will turn but will not transfer the power to the prop.
