Recently the prop on my 1987 Mercury 9.9 has been acting funny. Upon further inspection, the prop will turn but slower then the engine is running.

I got a lot of people telling me it is a shear pin. I have looked all over and I do not see anything even resembling a shear pin.

What else could it be?

Are you saying the motor revs but the boat moves slowly if at all?
Could be a spun hub.Normally the boat moves but as power is applied the motor revs and boat may actually slow down.Mark the underside of the hub with water proof marker run the motor and see if the line changes.

do what steel suggests, there is no such thing as a shearpin on that motor ,never was and never will be.shear pins started going the way of the dino in the late 60,s early seventies.
