On the TrailRite trailer I just bought, the original chromed steel wheels are starting to get rust spots. I'd be just as happy with painted wheels. Is there any kind of special prep that will help paint stick to the old chrome? I've thought about sandblasting then using POR, but not sure it will stay on chrome.

See if they will clean up with some paste wax and a scotchbrite pad, I have not had good sucsess painting chrome, it scratches chips and rubs off easily, but nothing rattle can can't handle.

Yea, I figured at a minimum a good sandblast would help. I have a small unit, but I'm going to see if there are any commercial sandblasters around here that could hit them harder, with a good abrasive media. These are too far gone to clean up well enough to look decent...

Before sandblasting try some naval jelly on the rust.

Wow, cant belive im the only one that knows this,

Use an SOS pad on them. Cleans them right up. Save the sand blasting money for beer.

Then if you want to paint them, get em good and clean go to the auto parts store and get some Dupli-color Metalcast paint and do em up.

I think they look great.
