sounds like you have some blown gaskets.. might have to pull it apart to see which is leaking but if you have the manual you should be able to figure whih gasket is most likely the issue.

good luck!

Re: coolant in oil

Was the coolant mixed with the oil or just sitting on the bottom. three places for it to get in: the camshaft water pump seals, blown head gasket or maybe exhaust riser. Check the lower starboard side of the water pump. Is the little weep hole open, shove a toothpick in to make sure. Does coolant come out? Pull the plugs and do a compression test. Might not be so bad. I hope! Welcome to the 470 club:)

Thanks for the info. I am plulling the motor tomorrow the flywheel needs replaced and a new starter as well. I am just wondering if I can salvage this motor. The icing on the cake is that the boat needs a outdrive.

the good thing is the glocol or coolant side is under hogher pressure then the oil side so leaks only go one way typically..

as stated, there are only a few places where the two cross.. head gaskets, water pump gasket etc..

if you are pulling it anyway, its easy to do when outside of the boat...

if you do a cpmression test it might narrow it down for you...meaning head gaskets or not...

you will be fine..just drain all the oil and filter and once your done tracking it all down change the oils again after the rebuild or whatever you do..
