I have a 1983 Evinrude 140HP that has been tilted up for at least 3-4 months.
I have driven it around and when I put it up on the lift with the engine down I discovered it was slowly dripping (maybe a drop a day).

I do I investigate the problem without pulling the boat out of the water.
How serious does this seem.

Help from anyone is welcomed!

If you are indeed leaking oil from your lower unit then you need to get new oil in there asap. And for that I think you'd need to be on dry land.

When you empty out the old oil, cloudy/milky oil indicates a leak whereby water is seeping in.

You will have excess oil dripping from the exhaust after running which is normal. If the oil is gear oil, you should reseal the gearcase.

The crossflow engines don't drain as well in the tilted position, so the amount of excess oil may be greater than when stored in the proper (running) position.
