Is it all right to hold the hose on the end of the cooper tube & then start & idle engine for a few seconds ? I have a knock in the motor i'm trying to find & I want to try it without the drive shaft in. I can hear it best when idling so I wouldn't need to rev it . 1989 25hp te25elceb

works fine, you can run it forever like that.

I think you should be fine, you dont need water right away in the block itself....it takes a little time to heat up

it is just said to be bad to run the water impeller with out water ..

and if you did get any water up into the block it would just help..

the water wont get sucked up...youll have to rely on water pressure from the hose to force it up into the motor...and i dont see that happening unless you neck the dia of the hose down to match the pick up tube.

good luck

Thanks Guys, I didn't know if the drive shaft should be in the crankshaft when it was running. So I'll give it a try & see if the knock quits.

You're going to have zero resistance on the crank shaft, watch the RPMs.
