trim wont work

i have a 1980 cobalt w/ mercruiser 260.
i just went out to get her ready for the lake. everything works great except when i went to lift the drive, when i push the up button on the throttle lever, all i get is a click from the solenoid. nothing happens at all when i push the down button. drive is in the full up position.
would the solenoid be bad you think. unit worked fine last season.

thanks for any help here. need to get up & running fast.

You need the manual for this. "Adults only", #9, download manual#6, section 5 will help you troubleshoot your trim. Good luck!

Actually, for a 1980 model, you need manual #3 for the engine, #4 for the outdrive.
