Hour meter problem

I just got a new Hobbs meter for my boat. The boat has about 150 hours on it, so I wanted the meter to reflect the total time on the boat. The meter packaging said it handles 4-40 volts, so I hooked it up to a 9 volt battery to start clicking the hours onto it. This worked great til about 105 hours, when it just stopped clicking. I tried new batteries, and even my truck battery, but all I get is an initial "click" followed by a few ticks, then nothing. Did the meter just crap out? Did my 9 volt hookup possible mess it up? I'm at a loss. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Hour meter problem

I see them go bad all the time. If its a "Hobbs" brand. They are warranty thru 2000 hours. However a good "jolt" works sometimes.
