2001 225hp evinrude,shutting down

after running a short time my engine shutsdown no warning buzzer or lights come on. When I try to start it all lights come on as it goes through its rebooting phase but engine will not crank. after 10 min. it will start and run fine until it stalls out again any help appreciated

Your EMM (engine computer) is failing internally, fairly common on 2000-2001 evinrudes before being redesigned by Bombardier for 2002.

Contact www.dfitechnologies.com for repair options or an authorized Evinrude dealer for the new or rebuilt EMM exchange program.

Seahorse: I see you have answered questions related to the ficht emm issue several times, so im hoping you can answer a related question.

A guy is selling a boat at a great price with a 2001 ficht 175 on the back. The seller informed me that he just replaced the emm. I heard it run today b#fore I read about all of the supposed problems with this motor. He is going to take me for a test drive tomorrow. Should I consider buying this motor? It only has about 500 hours. He is giving me an old laptop with diagnostic software.

A FICHT motor like that one has next to no resale value in today's market. If you buy the rig, make sure it is priced for the boat and trailer only. You may get lucky, the 2001 models were designed well but the parts quality control was lacking back then as OMC went through different owners and CEO's before bankruptcy.
