Sever oil leak coming out of the housing of the motor (ser#C295627). I was pleased that it's just that the hose coming out of the bottom of the oil tank was loose on the non-oil tank end. About the only place that I can find that the end of the hose would connect to was a small hole on the underside of the cover plate of the lower carburetor...the length of hose and the way it was formed/bent seems to indicate this is where might go anyway. As you can tell, I'm not too mechanically inclined...does it sound right that this hose would connect the oil tank to the underside of the carb cover? Thanks.

Re: 1990 40-hp 4-cyl 2-stroke oil-inj Merc

wish I could help you. but i am a green when it comes to boat motors.
I have the same motor. but dont have that problem.
However my motor doesnt like to run under load at low RPM.
There is a gas leak from top carb where it has the throttle shaft going to the lower carb. I guess there is no way to fix it as there are no seals/gaskets.
And now i noticed an oil leak from the gear housing under the prop. It doesnt look like gear oil but more like regular oil. not sure from where or if its just exhaust residue of 2 stroke.
