I have a 1967 6hp Evinrude Fisherman which will start and idle ok (not great), but the engine wants to die out if I try to open the throttle above the "start" position- either in gear or in neutral. Any ideas?

Things I've tried so far:
-Replaced and adjusted points and condensers
-Removed and cleaned out carb (not a rebuild)
-Removed and inspected spark plugs
-Replaced fuel

As a side note- one of the transom clamp screws is bent- anyone know where to buy these?

The clamp should be available from your dealer.

Have you checked compression? Have you checked the spark, will it jump a 1/4 inch and have a blue snap.

I got it running good now. I think it was a bad cork seal on the high speed jet in the carb- so it got good fuel at idle, but would go lean when the throttle opens up.

I also replaced a missing pin on my driveshaft (for the crank seal), and installed a new fuel pump at the same time, so the problem could have been related to one of those parts.
