It's is like running your engine with no thermostate--it will overheat. It only took them 30 years to figure this out.

I can understand that, but they are suggesting the engine will ingest water if the procedure is not followed. What gives?

TX, they are worried about water being injested through the exhaust....with the advent of roller cam/vortec motors there is alot more valve overlap in the cam timing, which at low rpms allows water to suspend relatively high in the exhaust stream..a misfiring cylinder is all that is needed to allow this suspended water to 'revert' back upstream and fall into the exhaust manifold and then into a cylinder via an open exhaust valve...not a good thing.
