I have a question about my 1986 85hp force, It will run all day in a container of water but as soon as I get on the lake it will die under load! I can drive around the lake just in gear, but if I throttle up at all it just stalls out! It fires right back up without a problem! I have checked compression 110,110, 107. I was told to check the coils, so I have replaced them Spark is strong. The one thing I haven't done yet is rebuild the carbs. I was told to do it but quite frankly have never done it before and am afraid I am going to make it worse! I have worked on car engine but never touched the carbs on those either! I am getting a little tired of thinking it's fixed then driving 45 minutes to the closest lake to find out...Nope! Do you think this is probably a carb issue, I know the previous owner didn't do any kind of maintenance on it!! Is rebuilding them hard? I would consider myself pretty mechanically inclined just nervous! :~)
Thanks for any input!!
