I have recently graduated from my old 1986 150HP Black Max to a 2005 Mercury Optimax 200HP DFI. I have been going through the normal hook-up operations as far as mounting the engine and connecting all the components and controls which are from my old engine. I have been taking my time with this as I want everything to be as right as possible with this new engine. I recently connected brand new battery cables to the engine followed by steering and throtle, gear cables. I tested the electrical simply by turning the key to the key on engine off position. The engine made what I would call an "electrical prime noise", a small buzzing sound lasting a few seconds and I shut the key off. Did this once again immediately with the same sound and I was done. Just making sure electrically speaking everything was cool. Volt gauge indicated proper volts, warning horn was non funtional, so it did not sound.
So here I am 3 days later and I replaced the warning horn, again wanting everything to be as perfect as possible with my new enging. I turn the keyswitch and NOTHING. Thought this was strange as it just worked a few days ago, so I tried a different battery and got the same result.
The voltmeter shows no volts, it's like the solenoid is dead. I have tested the connections at the solenoid and block and it regular voltage is present. But, the trim is not working either, it's like I have lost all electrical power...
Looking for some help with this one...
Thanks All...
