I recently purchased a '73 glastron with a johnson 85 outboard. I had a new lower unit installed by a professional. while i was out i noticed my throttle is very tight and it seems to have a mind of it's own. when i throttle up the controls are very tight and do not get a smooth full range of throttle. also when shifting from neutral to foward it seems to shift slowly giving a sort of grinding sound before i feel it pop into gear. do my throttle and shift cables need replacing or just lubrication? if i can lubricate them. how?please help i'm already 1000.00 + dollars into this project.

You could lubricate the cables but for the effort, and the cost of new ones, just replace. As far as shifting goes, it might need a slight adjustment so it shifts smoothly.
