i have found a 57 mark 30 in good shape and would love to get it for 1957 geisler I am restoring...the only issue is that it is a pull start, and I would love to have an electric. Does anyone know if there a kit for converting a pull start 57 merc mark 30 to an electric start??

thanks in advance

Re: 1957 merc mark 30 question

About the only way to convert one is to find one with the parts you need. There are quite a few of them out there with busted up lower units (the weak point on those motors) so if you're up for the hunt, you may find what you need. Same set-up was also used on Mark 55s from 1956 to about 1958 - make sure you get a flywheel with the small taper to fit the small taper crankshaft on your Mark 30. Later Mark 55s (I think starting in 1959) might have the larger taper cranks - can't recall for sure when they started using them. Those flywheels won't work on your Mark 30. The system from a 1955 Mark 55 won't work for you, either - it's kind of a sling-arm type starter motor and are a pain in the behind. Flywheel is different, too...
