Hello, my name is Jason and I am about to "attempt" to do a motor swap between a 1986 bayliner capri with a 125 force and a 1992 bayliner capri with a 120 force.....i am a regular mechanic on my own cars, doing large and small repairs, so i am pretty good with tools....how difficult will this be?.....the 92 120hp force is bad, the 86 125hp is running well, so i want the 86 motor on the 92 boat, especially since i just had the upholstery/carpet done......the transom on each boat seems to be slightly different thickness, will this be a problem.....also, will the steering hookups be the same....any links on step by step instructions or write ups of someone who has tried this before?.....thanks to everyone in advance, Jason

Just make sure the motor length is the same. The rest is easy. You might need controls and a control/electrical cable.J

Nit a hard job man, just gonna have to do it and see if the controls are the same. Try to reuse mounting holes if able, if not be sure to seal up old holes well. Also have help and lots of it...these motors are heavy! And be sure to center outboard coreectly and not off to the side.

Yeah! As long as the engine leg is the same, everything swaps. Me? I would just do it as a temporary measure. Since the 120 is a big bore engine, short stroke engine, and the 125 is a small bore, long stroke engine, it produces horsepower in a slightly different band. I consider the 120 a better engine. You will not notice the extra 5 HP anyway.
