1966 mercury 20hp (200) dies wide open

I have a mercury 20hp (200) 1966 serial#1971198. I have had it for about two years got it very cheap. I got it running and it ran good for about a year. Now, when I run it wide open it dies but it will start back up. It will put around just fine and the pee-stream looks good but will not run full throttle. Help! Someone mentioned coil but any help would be nice.

I have 68 merc 200. Last year I had similar problems with mine. Most of the time it only felt like I was going half throttle when I was wide open. I did a few things. Check the fuel lines inside and out of the motor. Check the fuel pump. My diaphragm had a big hole in it. Those things helped mine a lot but in the end the culprit was a bad point (possibly coil as well).
