aluminum boat - need to strip paint?

I have a 60's sears 14 ft semi v that I am going to restore. Thought about just bringing it to bare aluminum, but now I think I will paint it. My question: Do I need to completely strip the old paint before I prime and paint again? I know that I need to get the flakes off and sand it to make the primer adhere, but didn't know if I had to take it all the way down or not.

Thanks in advance to those that have done this before,

Welcome to iboats.

Not necessary to strip the paint...... read through the Starcraft restores and see how other's have done it. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=385090

Rustoleum is your best best for paint.
