I have a 2000 40hp 2stroke yamaha. It started to run badly I found the inline plastic fuel bulb/filter filled with stuff, cleaded, but now it will only run with the "on/emergacy/off" red switch behind the air intake, in the emergacy postion. I looked in the shop manual and can not find what this switch does? It seems to run fine in the emergacy postion but only at 2500rpm, am I bypases the fuel filter?

Re: emergacy on/off switch

Sounds like you need to pull and clean the carbs and probably the whole fuel system if you have found that in the screen/filter. And install a 10 micron filter/water seperator in the line before the motor

E switch dumps fuel into intake bypassing the carbs to help get back to dry land so you can fix properly
