first time post hope some one has an idea. I have a 40 Hp Johnson Sea Horse model 40 esl69 in great shape. Just finished restoration, engine is in great shape and ran a test tank for 2 x 1hr stints. In the water this weekend, turned over first crank and idled fine, ran 15-25 minutes 40% -50%-80% no problem, idled back into neutral and carb flooded out. Subsequent tries ended to same end regardless of position of auxilary throttle postition. Engine had sat for a few years. Stuck float? Would it be a simple as a new gas cap that pressurizes the tank be the culprit?

If you had a stuck float, I would think that there would be fuel pouring out of the carb, and the bulb would not stay hard after about a min or so.

fuel does pour out of the carb when aux throttle is left in start position. When throttle is back to idle engine stalls, rather uncomfortable when docking in rough water. I assume aux throttle should be in idle mode after starting/warm up.

If you can, run it without the gas tank cap on, being sure no fuel is spilled. to save you some headaches, go ahead and clean the carbs. Its not that hard a job, and you said it has been a couple of years since it has been run so its a good idea,

If fuel pours out of the carb, then the float/needle is not doing its job. The tank should not be under pressure. Too much pressure and it will blow by the float needle.
