It's possible, I have done it. Other have too. I was never satisfied with spliced coax for any type of lead.

Dennis, I did it a few days ago and it worked out great. I spliced the wire running inside the clear insulator tube by soldering and then using heat shrink to insulate it. Next I soldered the outer wire and wrapped it with with a small piece of foil then used heat shrink to insulate the entire splice. It worked out awesome. If you look at how the cable is put together on the inside, repair it the same way making sure everything is insulated from the elements. Hope that helps.
